A fine Southern Song qingbai porcelain bowl of generous size, finely potted from a notably translucent body and covered in a thick, pale greenish-blue glaze. The glaze has a soft, luminous quality and displays a fine network of crackle across the surface.
The rim is delicately foliated, formed with six intentional V-shaped notches that lend the bowl a subtle flower-like profile. At the centre of the recessed base, an unglazed circular area remains where the vessel rested on its firing pad inside the kiln saggar; this area has fired to a warm yellowish-brown tone.
The interior is decorated with an elegant incised and combed peony design. The petals and foliage are rendered with flowing, confident lines, while the finely combed details add texture and depth beneath the translucent qingbai glaze. In Chinese decorative tradition, the peony is associated with nobility, wealth and prosperity.
Measuring 19 cm in diameter, this is a substantial example of Southern Song qingbai ware. The combination of a translucent porcelain body, softly crackled glaze, foliated rim and refined peony decoration gives the bowl a particularly elegant and sophisticated character.
The bowl is in fine condition, with no restoration or repair.
