This impressive large charger, measuring approximately 43 cm in diameter, is a fine example of Ming Dynasty Longquan ware. It is boldly potted with a broad, open mouth, shallow rounded sides, and a neatly formed footrim. The body is thick and well-balanced, giving the piece a strong and dignified presence.
The vessel is covered overall in a celadon glaze of soft, lustrous tone, ranging from powdery pale green to a subtle plum-green hue. The glaze has a gentle, subdued sheen, with areas of natural crackle that enhance its antique character. The central medallion is moulded with a blooming peony design, the scrolling foliage and layered petals rendered in rich relief, symbolising prosperity and good fortune. The inner walls are further decorated with radiating ribbed lines, adding depth and visual dynamism to the form.
The overall craftsmanship is accomplished, with a harmonious balance between form and decoration. Pieces of this scale and quality are characteristic of the finest Ming Longquan production, suitable both as a display object and a functional vessel.
